The topic of the June seminar was: &#8220;The role of witnesses and expert witnesses in arbitration proceedings&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p>The panelists were:\u00a0 Ms. Ana Stanic, E&amp;A Law, Ms. Tijana Lalic, Prica&amp;Partners and Dr. Jovan Nik\u010devi\u0107, BIT.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.arbitrationassociation.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/06\/IMG_5784-1.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-2444\" src=\"https:\/\/www.arbitrationassociation.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/06\/IMG_5784-1-1024x478.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"669\" height=\"312\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.arbitrationassociation.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/06\/IMG_5784-1-1024x478.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/www.arbitrationassociation.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/06\/IMG_5784-1-300x140.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.arbitrationassociation.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/06\/IMG_5784-1-768x359.jpg 768w, https:\/\/www.arbitrationassociation.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/06\/IMG_5784-1.jpg 2016w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 669px) 100vw, 669px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>In the two-hour discussion and in communication with the members of the audience, the topics which were dealt , <em>inter alia<\/em>,\u00a0include the following: importance of gathering evidence\/facts in preparation for the arbitration proceedings, the role of foreign attorneys in international proceedings, the importance of timely and full cooperation and communication with the client, due care in preparation of witness statements\/expert reports, as well in their preparation for oral hearing, problems of language i.e. importance of translation, as well as different techniques of direct and cross-examination. A special attention has been drawn to differences in approach to witness examination by attorneys from common law and civil law jurisdictions, as well as to different standards of independence and impartiality required for party appointed experts.
